Christ or Barabbas?

by on May 20, 2013

You make decisions every day. Some are critical. Some are not. All are important but none as important as the decision: what will you do with Jesus the Christ.

You decide for or against Jesus every day in so many ways. The world around you is against Jesus. God wants you to decide for Jesus. The choice is yours.

There was a day when many people decided against Jesus.

Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them,

Whom will ye that I release unto you?

Barabbas or Jesus which is called Christ?

The chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

The chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. Barabbas was a murderer and a robber.

Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

The people cried out all at once, saying,

Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas

From Matthew 27, Mark 15, and Luke 23

In the greatest travesty of justice of all time, the innocent Jesus was crucified and a guilty man was set free.  Who decided against Jesus?

  • The religious leaders decided against Jesus.
  • Pilate decided against Jesus.
  • The people decided against Jesus.

We want to think that we are different today. We would never participate in such a travesty – or would we?

  • Religious leaders decided against Jesus because they were Spiritually Blind.
  • Pilate decided against Jesus to please the people.
  • The people decided against Jesus they were persuaded by the leaders.

What will you do with Jesus today?

Will you stand with Him as people mock Him?

Will you stand with Him as people reject Him?

Will you stand with Him as people reject His Truth?

Will you stand against the leaders who teach the people falsehoods?

Will you stand against “Pilate” as he hands down the guilty verdict?

Will you stand against the multitude who calls for His death?

Will you stand against the mobs who reject Him every day?

Will you identify with Him?

He was despised and rejected.

He accepted that rejection to set you free.

What will you do with Him today?

What if Pilate had said, “The prisoner is not guilty. I stand with Him!”

What if …

What if the religious leaders had set aside their pride and arrogance?

What if …

What if the people had refused the advice of the religious leaders?

What if …

What if you stand with Jesus and accept the rejection that He knew?

What if …

What if you stand with Him when others are calling for His death?

What if …

What if you crown Him Lord when others crown Him with thorns?

What if …

It is your choice today – which will it be –Jesus Christ or Barabbas?

How will you decide?

  • Are you Spiritually blind or do you have Spiritual sight?
  • Are you pleasing the people or are you standing for God?
  • Are you following wrong leaders or are you following Godly men?

To stand with Jesus is to die with Him.

To die with Jesus is to live for Him.

To live for Him is to live with Him forever.

Those are the choices.

It is your choice today.
