To be Godly

by on July 16, 2013

To be Godly is to be like God.

Humans are created in the image of God. They, therefore, are somehow like God. All people are like God because the creation reflects the Creator. Godly people, however, are like God in a most unique way.

Not only are Godly people like God by virtue of creation. Godly people are also like God in their aspirations, thoughts, and behaviors. They ready and study the Bible, the Word of God. The Bible is God’s book in which He reveals Himself to His followers. Obedience to His Word makes these people continue to grow to be like God.

They continue to apply His Word to their lives and they become more and more like Him. His Holy Spirit empowers and changes them.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

II Corinthians 3:18

They also reject unholy influences.

Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.

I Corinthians 15:33

Becoming like God means that His followers strive to live the balance of mercy and truth as found in God’s character.

  • God is love
  • God is light
  • God is truth
  • God gives Spiritual discernment.
  • God is boundless mercy.
  • God is also unmitigated judgment.
  • God gives mercy in His time.
  • God gives judgment in His time.

The attributes God possesses in totality, He shares with us in measure.

As men of God, we need to understand when to use love and mercy and

When to use truth and judgment.

  • In the discipline of our children.
  • In the way we rule the Church.
  • In our daily interactions.
  • In our teaching.
  • In our family life.
  • In every way at all times.

Accept the call to be like your Creator.

Be a man of God.
