Blessed are Those Who Hunger and Thirst

by on August 6, 2013

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Hunger and thirst are very common human experiences. Bodies need nourishment. So do the soul and spirit.

Righteousness is the Christian experience. It is the result of being hungry and thirsty for God.

Exercise makes us hungry. Spiritual exercise makes us spiritually hungry. When we become spiritually lazy we find spiritual junk-food. Junk food is long-term harmful. Spiritual junk food will kill you. It makes you feel full but does not fill you with righteousness.

Our bodies demand nourishment. Spiritually we are the same.

If we are in touch with our Spiritual lives we will be hungry and thirsty.

If you hunger and thirst for righteousness:

  • You will be filled
  • You will be filled with righteousness
  • You will be filled with goodness
  • You will be filled with the Holy Spirit
  • You will be filled with discernment
  • You will be filled with wisdom
  • You will be filled with love

Turn off the radio and all other distractions.

Find a quiet place.

Fill your heart with the truth of the Word

If you are called to be a Spiritual shepherd your task is to feed the sheep.

Jesus told Peter three times: feed my sheep.

  • The sheep are hungry.
  • They are starving.
  • They are thirsty
  • They must be shepherded
  • They must be fed.
  • Or they will die.

Are you spiritually hungry and thirsty?

We are living in a time of famine for hearing the Word of God.

But, Jesus’ promise still stands:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

For they shall be filled.
