Blessed are the Peacemakers

by on August 8, 2013

Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Peacemakers are needed in a world of hostility and war.

Peacemakers are need for the individual – to bring peace of heart.

Peacemakers are needed for the community – to bring peace to the group.

Ephesians 4:3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We are told to keep the unity of the Spirit.

We are not told to keep the spirit of unity.

Biblical peace and unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace is based on truth.

We are to make peace. Peace at what cost? Peace cannot be made by compromise. Compromise is not peace and does not produce peace. Only truth produces peace. Truth spoken with love produces peace. So,

  • To be peacemakers we need truth.
  • We need to speak truth.
  • We need to live truth.
  • We need to teach truth.
  • Truth is the key.
  • The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable.

Not all words of peace are true peace. History students remember the famous, grainy, black and white recording of Britain’s Neville Chamberlain. In his hand he held a promise from Adolf Hitler – a promise of peace. It was a promise that Hitler had no intention of keeping. Falling into complacency about false promises and false premises does not bring peace.

Peace can be wrong. Pilate and Herod made peace with each other.

And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

Luke 23:12

There is a peace made of compromise.  It is the wrong kind of peace.

Peacemakers do not have a conflict mentality.

Peace is the result of a mind fixed on God.

God will keep you in perfect peace if your mind is fixed on Him.

Isaiah 26:3

Peacemakers who speak truth can expect to be misunderstood.

My soul has dwelt too long with one who hates peace.

I am for peace;

 But when I speak,

Tthey are for war.

Psalms 120:6-7

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Romans 10:15

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

Ephesians 6:15

God has sent some people to preach the gospel of peace.

All believers need to have their feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. The gospel of peace is the message from God that His good news is peace.

The gospel of peace reconciles people with God.

The gospel of peace reconciles people with people.

That is why Jesus said,

Blessed are the peacemakers,

For they shall be called sons of God.
