Friends in Politics

by on September 6, 2013

It is always nice to have friends who are politicians. They will pave the way for you in every case. It is important, however, to make sure that you always cooperate with their program and never counter them in any way. If you counter them they will not be your friend any longer.

They are your friends.

All you have to do is to pay the price.

This is nothing new.

After Jesus’ crucifixion there were soldiers posted to guard the tomb. The tomb was found empty. The punishment for the soldiers was death. However, that would not serve the purpose of the politicians. They needed a story. The story was easy to find.

While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city

And told the chief priests all that had taken place.

When they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel,

They gave a sum of money to the soldiers and said,

“Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep

And if this comes to the governor’s ears,

We will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”

So they took the money and did as they were directed; and

This story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

Matthew 28:11-15  (RSV).

How amazing! Imagine. A soldier who knew his punishment was death. But, “no.” All you have to do is cooperate with the schemes of the politicians and you are safe. Even if the story comes to the “governor’s ears” we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble. Whew! That was close!

How easy can this get? All we have to do is parrot the lines of the politicians and we are free and some money to boot! They took the money and did as they were told.

Nothing has changed. Powerful politicians policing the people – telling them what to think and what to do.

  • Just cooperate and the road will be paved in front of you.
  • Just cooperate and you will be protected.
  • Just cooperate and do as you are told –rewards are just around the corner.
  • Just cooperate and sell your soul for the most recent schemes of the politicians.
  • Just cooperate and forget the integrity of the truth.
  • Just cooperate and keep peace as it is defined by the power people.
  • Just cooperate and tell lies about Jesus.
  • Just cooperate and have money/prestige/position/power in the systems of this world.

But, they were wrong. Comfortable but wrong. Protected but wrong.

  • Jesus was not there.
  • Jesus was not dead.
  • Jesus’ disciples had not stolen his body.
  • Jesus was alive.

No manner of lies could change that. They never produced a body. All they would have had to do was find Jesus’ body and the course of history would be changed forever. That would not have been difficult to do. They did not do it.

Why are these stories in the Bible? The Scripture has all the intrigue of Shakespeare and more. It is the Word of God. We are warned and instructed and exhorted to be disciples and not politicians.

Truth is the highest value. Though ‘hand join in hand, the wicked will not go unpunished.’ No matter who or what tempts you to do wrong (albeit comfortable and in the company of powerful people) –

  • Do not do it.
  • Stand for truth.
  • No matter the cost.
  • No matter the price.
  • Stand alone if needed.
  • God has 7000 more Godly men out there.
  • They are standing – probably alone.
  • God knows where each of them is.

Don’t buy the line of the politicians. They are not your friends. Just try them. Disagree. Just one time. See what happens. You will pay. They will make sure of it.

Jesus is worth it. Some day you will stand before Him as the Judge of all the earth.

Jesus is worth it. Some day you will be so happy that you stood with Him here on earth.

Jesus is worth it. Some day you will be blessed to hear Him say,

“Well done good and faithful servant.

Enter into the joys of your Lord.”
