Rescue the Perishing

by on November 18, 2013

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently,
He will forgive if they only believe.

Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Cords that are broken will vibrate once more.

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it
Strength for your labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way patiently win them,
Tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died.

Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
Frances Jane (Fanny J.) Crosby

This song is clearly an invitation song. Its purpose is to encourage those who need to accept Jesus, to invite Him into their heart. However, thinking recently about the words of this song, my mind was drawn to the highlighted verse above.

This song is not only for the unsaved, it is also for those who need love and care and friendship to be healed and be whole.
Heart crushed by the tempter – those words describe so many people.
Buried feelings need grace to be restored.
Touched and awakened by a kind and loving heart.
Broken chords are healed and attached and made to produce beautiful music.
What beautiful concepts to a hurting heart. What healing concepts to a broken heart. What important words to a faltering person bowed down by sin.

Blessings as you care for those you meet.
See the need and bring healing to the hearts of persons around you.
