Disobedience Causes Confusion

The Tower of Babel – God’s plan and man’s plan

And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

“Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

“Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

Genesis 9:7, 11: 4-8

I. God’s Plan

Be fruitful and replenish the earth

II. The human plan

A. “Go to – Let us make bricks”

Let us be self-sufficient

B. “Go to – Let us make ourselves a city”

Let us depend on ourselves

C. “Whose top may reach to Heaven”

They were trying to protect themselves

D. “Let us make a name for ourselves”

We are more important than God’s plan

E. “Lest we be scattered over the face of the earth”

They refused God’s plan

III. God’s response

A. The LORD saw the city and the tower

God knows what they/we are doing

B. The LORD saw the power of their plan

God knows what is possible

C. The Lord confused their language

Disobedience to God causes confusion

D. The LORD scattered them over the face of the earth

That was God’s plan

Are you looking for approval from God or from men?

Are you trying to make your own way without God?

If you will not be ruled by God, you will be ruled by men.

There is a way that seems right to man but

The ways thereof are the ways of death.

God is not impressed with your accomplishments.

What are you accomplishing for God?

What are you accomplishing for eternity?

Disobedience to God’s plan  will produce confusion in your life.

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that

They may all call upon the name of the LORD, to

Serve him with one consent.

Zeph. 3:9
