Lust – what is lust?
Lust is idolatry – it is wanting part of the creation more than the Creator.
Lust of the flesh is wanting something that God does not intend for you.

Lust is the idea of strong feelings about life. Lust can be something good. We can sing and/or live lustily. That means to sing and/or to live with the heart and soul and great enthusiasm. Lustily is not lustfully. When something is lustful, the meanings change totally. We need more of the good kind of lust/enthusiasm and we need to eradicate the bad kind of lust! Unfortunately, the current concept of lust is totally of the evil sort.

So, how do we deal with lust? It is a major part of modern life. It has always been a part of life but modernity has increased the impact many fold. Allow me to address the question/problem from the perspective of a Godly man.

1. The Holy Scripture – Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Thy Word. – The Word of God, the Bible will keep you from sin if you make it a part of your life.

2. The way of escape – God will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to resist. God will make a way of escape from the temptation so you can bear it.

3. The Human action – Flee from idolatry! Flee sexual immorality! Some sins we stand against. Some sins we flee from. We must flee from lust. We must keep our bodies under control.

4. The Supernatural element – God is there. He will make it possible for you to be victorious over lust. The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations…

5. The voice of the Holy Spirit –The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God – The voice of the Holy Spirit of God speaking to our spirit alerts us to the need to obey Him and not to obey the flesh. We must obey.

6. The Power of the Holy Spirit – The fruit of the Spirit in our lives gives us power to do right and power to not do wrong. The fruit of the Spirit is self control – control of the self that comes from the Holy Spirit of God living in our minds and bodies.
The Fruit of the Spirit is goodness and righteousness and truth – not evil and unrighteousness and lies.

7. See God who is invisible – The invisible God is present at all time. He sees. He knows. You can see Him by faith and reckon yourself responsible to Him.

8. Be crucified with Christ – and you will be dead to sin. It is no longer your will but God’s will that must be done in your life.

9. Make no provision for the flesh. Do not make it easy for the flesh to live. Plenty of opportunities will arise without you making provision for sins of the flesh.

10. Appreciate the beauty of God’s creation. Appreciate beauty without obsessing and lusting for what God has made.

It is not sin to see some beautiful part of God’s creation. But, the next step is often to want to use that to bring pleasure to your self. That is the sin. That is lust. Lust will kill you sooner or later. It is the fruit of a selfish life.

Lust need not control you. Satan need not control you. You can be victorious over lust. Reject selfishness and choose the Jesus way. “Not my will but God’s will be done.”

Live with enthusiasm, not with lust.
