The Cost of discipleship – The Biblical inversion

by on December 8, 2014

There is a cost of discipleship. It is a heavy cost. It will cost you everything. It has cost God more than that.

Discipleship is also an inversion. Luke 17: 33 “Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. Discipleship is counter intuitive. The way up is down. The way of leadership is the way of the servant.

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Peter 2:15-16, 21, 24-25)
