Life – a Battle Ground

The battle between God and Satan

We sometimes hear that life is a battle. That is true. But, life is also a battle ground. The battles of life are frequently fought on the battle ground of our lives. Our hearts and minds become the territory where truth and falsehood, right and wrong, God and Satan, health and sickness, and integrity and lying are fought.

Satan apparently has access to God. Revelation 12:10 For the accuser of our brothers is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night. Satan is accusing God’s children to God constantly. If you are a child of God you are being accused. You are being accused of following God because you benefit from God’s protection.

God is also being accused by Satan. Satan accuses God of blessing you so you will follow and obey God. Satan cannot conceive of the love that exists between God and His children. He does not know that we follow God because we are His children and that we love God.

God sometimes allows our lives to become the battle ground between Himself and Satan. God allows Satan to bring sickness, tragedy, calamity and loss into our lives. God limits Satan but does allow Satan to bring the battle of the ages into our lives.

When this happens, we are torn because we do not understand how this could happen. If God loves you and you love and follow Him, then why would God allow pain and stress and problems and losses into your life?

The answer is not so complicated. God allows problems to test you and prove your love and devotion to Him – not only in good times but also in times when life does not make sense.

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way. If you are a child of God your steps are ordered by the Lord. Sometimes those steps are through the valley of the shadow of death. Where ever your steps take you, God is with you. Whether it makes sense to you or not, God is there. Satan may be there also because God may have given Satan permission to afflict you.

Job was afflicted. God allowed it. God allowed it for His own honor and glory. How could Job know that? How can you know that? Sometimes you cannot know why you are being tested. God knows and He will make a way of escape from temptation. He may allow your death if it brings glory to Him.

Psalm 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. We are guided by the counsel of God and then received into glory.

This life is a battle and a battle ground. If life is difficult, that is no surprise. In all of Job’s difficulty he did not sin with his words and did not charge God foolishly. He accepted that God gives and takes away. God is purifying His children in this life. Job knew that God’s trials would be the way of being tried as gold is tried in a fire. Job knew that his life would come forth as gold.

What about you? Are you being tried? Do you feel conflicted by the difficulties of life? God is purifying you and you will come forth as gold. Be faithful. Do not allow Satan’s battles to discourage you. God is there and will not forsake you. You can trust God. Whether in life or in death, God is there with you.
