Life – a Battle Ground

The Counsel of God and Not of Man

God’s disapproval of Job’s “friends”

How easy is it to compare ourselves among ourselves? How easy is it to judge each other by what our minds can conceive? How easy is it to evaluate another’s situation without really knowing all the details? How easy is it to jump to conclusions about situations? How easy is it to be led astray by the words and opinions of other people?

My ways are not your ways nor my thoughts your thoughts, says the Lord. The only way we can think accurately about life is to think about life the way God thinks about life. The only way we can do that is to hear what God has to say about life. The way we do that is to study the Scripture and be listening to the Holy Spirit of God speaking to our heart.

So, when we consider our self in comparison to God only then can we approximate our relative position in life. Only then can we perceive our tiny import and status. Only then can we have a proper, accurate perception of our self and God. God’s knowledge, power, control, wisdom and all of His attributes become the key to understanding life.

What ever happens to you is the plan of God. He knows and He cares. He orders and He designs. He is present with interest in your life. A good man’s steps are ordered by the Lord.

God is pleased when we have our delight in Him. He is displeased when we base our lives on the fear and opinions of men. He was very displeased with the counsel of Job’s friends. God wants to be our all and all. He tolerates no rivals.

All the intricricies of the universes are known and ordered by Jehovah God. From the tiniest flower to the largest mammal. From the smallest speck of dust to the largest heavenly body – all are known and held in place by God. He upholds all things by the word of His power. How much more does he love and protect us – in life and in death. In time and in eternity. In the micro and in the macro. We are His. We are graven on the palms of His hands. He loves us.

Counsel from the Scripture

O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
From Psalm 8

Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:16-18
