Ephesians 4 – God’s Team

Scripture sometimes uses athletics as examples of how God works. Ephesians lends itself to that type of illustration. Chapter four clearly explains the way God’s team works and why.

1. The Captain of God’s Team – Jesus
To each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
When Jesus ascended on high,
• He led captivity captive,
• And gave gifts to men.”
Jesus has chosen and placed the members of His team in His Church

2. The members of God’s team – Gifts
And He Himself gave:
• Some to be apostles,
• Some prophets,
• Some evangelists
• Some pastors and
• Some teachers
Each team member has a specific gift to be used to benefit and bless the team

3. The purpose of God’s team – Equip the saints
• The equipping of the saints
• The work of ministry,
• The edifying of the body of Christ,
The purpose of the gifts is to equip the Church to live for and serve God

4. The result of God’s team – Spiritual maturity
• We all come to the unity of the faith and
• Of the knowledge of the Son of God,
• To a perfect man,
• To the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
• That we should no longer be children,
• Tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine,
• By the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
The result of God’s team is the Church grows in Spiritual maturity and health

5. The desire of God’s team – Unity of the Spirit
• Speaking the truth in love,
• May grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ–
• From whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies
• According to the effective working by which every part does its share,
• Causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
God’s people have unity of the Spirit because of God’s team

Has God called you to be part of His team?
Are you exercising the gift God has given you?
If you are, you know the blessedness of being on God’s side of life.
If you are not, God invites you to submit yourself to the Captain of His team.
