Prophets not accepted

Prophets not accepted in their home country

God sends prophets to His people. Prophets speak God’s words to His people. Most of the time, His people do not accept the prophets that God sends.

Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
False prophets, on the other hand, are accepted everywhere – Ahab had 400 prophets who told him what he wanted to hear. The one true prophet, Micaiah, was rejected and mistreated – locked up and put on bread and water.

Jeremiah 26:7-11 – There was a threat of death to Jeremiah. There was an accusation of disloyalty (“he spoke against city”) against him. Why? Because he spoke God’s truth. He was not accepted.

When the religious systems tried ‘heretics’ they had to try them on political charges, not on Bible or truth. The ‘heretics’ knew the Scriptures thoroughly and faithfully. The religious system always had to change the charges. They could not fault the ‘heretics’ on truth. They had to find fault with their rejection of politics and religious systems. The ‘heretics’ were not loyal to the religious systems. That was their “crime” and for that they were rejected and persecuted and many times were killed.

Matthew 13
54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Are you a prophet? Are you speaking God’s words?

If you are not a prophet, are you listening to the words of the prophets?

Truth is not offensive unless you do not wish to obey. When people reject God’s words, truth becomes offensive to them. That is why Jesus was offensive to religious leaders.

When you wish to obey, truth is refreshing. You cannot get enough of it. Why is that? Because the truth will make you free.

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who believed on Him,
If you continue in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36 Therefore if the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

Prophets, accepted or not, speak God’s words. God’s words and God’s Word will make you free.
